Finally got a real nice one

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

Finally got a real nice one

Post by Gunsil »

I attended the NCCA one day show in Marlborough, MA yesterday and came away with two knives. One the owner had shown me 5-6 years ago but would not part with it even though I had made a generous offer. Yesterday he put a price on it and after some agonizing I agreed and the knife came home with me. It is a genuine pearl handed hunting knife, model 762 and so marked on the guard. These are extremely rare knives and this one is in the nicest condition of the three I have ever seen with a 100% full blade and a tiny amount of original finish, no cracks in the pearl which has great color. The other is a tickler in jigged bone. The tickler has the KA-BAR over Olean, NY mark and steel liners and bolsters, a definite war time made knife which retains 30-40% original blade finish and the blade is full. Tickler has great snap and no wobble. I spent way more than I planned due to the pearl hunter but a good time was had by all.

Very nice additions Gene! I especially like the bone on that Kabar toothpick. (If you decide you no longer have room for it in your collection, please bring it to the Shenandoah show next Spring and I will be happy to relieve you of it.) ::tu:: ::tu::

Thanks for the compliments guys! You'd probably think me nuts for paying the price on the pearl hunter. dlr110 they are both KA-BARs, Herb, if it were a Case or Remington I might consider it but KA-BARs never leave my home unless I get a better one of the same model. Looking forward to the Shenandoah show, wish it were sooner!!

Gene MOP is always nice to find but especially in the older ones what a score! According to the brochure there were two 762, 4.5” and 5.5” blade. Which is yours?

Here are my two”ticklers”. KA-BAR on one side and Union Cutlery on the other. They have brass liners and appear to be nickel silver bolsters.

Nice ticklers Dan, bone looks well worn, must have been oft carried knives. The 762 is 4.5", I think my minty 5.5" one is shown in an old post of mine. This one is the best 4.5" I have seen, I have two well used ones. Guess it's time to part with one of the used ones.

It was nice seeing you at the show. Kind of fun to watch you try to talk yourself out of that Pearl handled KA-BAR, but we all knew it would go home with you. Lol.
