If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

NOT AGAIN !!!!!!

Post by Sauconian »

Argggggh ! I'm hating this right now. We're having some bad weather today, and 3 times I've put together a lenghty post, only to momentarily lose my internet connection. When the connection is restored, I'm still signed in but my post is gone !

Anyone know a solution ?

Some day this will happen just as I'm about to bid on something I badly want, and then..............

Fran if I'm writing something long, I always write it in an email to myself. I have AOL and any window I have open when I shut down automatically comes back up when I sign back on. I haven't lost power while doing this but I assume it would still be there, but I don't know.

Fran;
Only a suggestion, when writing a lengthy post write it in wordpad or notepad and then cut and paste to forum. If it's a really important auction use software and snipe it in last 6-7 seconds of auction.
Or if you want to spend a lot of money you can get a quick switch and a battery backup for your system with an inverter to change DC to AC.

Edit: Another suggestion, when bad weather is in play. Especially a storm with a lot of electrical activity shut your entire system down till it is clear. There has been more than one PC that has gone bonkers from lighting.

Moss, I've got the back-up, but several times a day there are power abnormalities, the back-up comes on 2 or 3 times in quick succession, and the modem drops the DSL connection. I think this is due to the power company bringing on more, or reducing generators, as it's usually at predictable times. 9 am, 5 pm, midnight etc.

I'm told the modem must be the problem, but you know how that goes. Everyone wants to put the blame elsewhere. I think today has been " off schedule " because it's a rainy Saturday. What I can't figure out is why I'll still be signed in, but the post is gone.

I can probably continue writting it, cut, copy and paste after re-opening a new post window, but I keep forgetting. ::dang::
