Family collection hand-me-down...Identification help please!

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Family collection hand-me-down...Identification help please!

Post by LewisMuse »

Hi everyone,

I've been gifted a small collection of Case knives from my grandfather's brother. I'm not certain what type or year these are, or their value. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome here LewisMuse.

What a great pile of knives you have there. Fortunate you.

If you haven't carried knives in the past now would be a good time to start. ::nod::

You've got a wonderful group to choose from.

Welcome to AAPK. You’ve inherited a nice group of knives. The answers to your questions about what they are and their age can be found here by clicking on Research in the header at the top of this page. Scroll down to the section about Case pocket knives. There you will find descriptions and pictures of patterns and their Case pattern numbers, and handle cover materials. There is also a section on how to de-code Case’s date code stamps.

There is a lot there to learn but it should be easy after you’ve figured out one or two. If you have questions about anything just ask. Happy researching! ::tu::

Once you’ve determined what you have, the best source for current value estimates is an advanced search of eBay for sold listings of the same or similar items.

I’m not totally sure how to use this forum. Attempting to reply to Bob. I’ve been a casual collector for a while, which is why I got the collection. So the answer now is yes!
