FORGED USA Cattle Knife - Maker?

The stamped reads: FORGED USA
No brass
Jigged bone scales.

Any help on time era/maker is appreciated.

Scott, I think those Forged in USA were made for Sears by Camillus. It has a bone handle so before 1960.

Scott. You got your meat hooks into a real dandy there. I'm not surprised at all that you're going to hang on to that one.

Not sure it applies to this particular knife, but a lot of knives made during the WWII era had steel liners because brass was in short supply and needed for ammunition. Goin's shows a date range of 1941-1960 for that tang stamp and says the knife would have had a Craftsman blade etch when new.

Think Phil is onto something with the Craftsman etch and or a Sta -Sharp etch ,which was Sears top shelf . If the knife was WW2 period it would say “ made in USA “ and no brass anywhere .. The forged in USA is IIRC , the Sears stamp used by Camillus. If etched “ Craftsman “or Sta- Sharp it would not have any brass according to my notes from a talk with Roland some time ago now . So my thoughts are it’s pre WW2 ,but could be way off base . Believe there’s some info in the Craftsman thread regarding this topic or one of the older Camillus threads . Any case Scott you have a great knife and a piece of cutlery history there . Enjoy toting it around.
