Camillus BSA Lock Blades

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

I can't tell from the photos, but is the shield metal or is it plastic? Camillus made that blade configuration Cub Scout knife in 1955 with a gold plastic shield, and with a gold metal shield in 1960 according to Ed Holbrook's book Official Scout Blades.

How it is worn smooth on a couple of spots it very much looks brass to me. I was doing a little looking on that link that was sent up there and found close to this particular knife, but they had three rivets in the handle and mine has one. I did find one on page 5 (I believe, by TRK (maybe)) - he had what looks to be this same knife. I had also looked through the Camillus Research page and did not see this one; but, again with three rivets, I did.

The 3 line tang stamp dates it to 1946-1956.

For more accurate dating, a clearer photo of the tang stamp is needed (I think there is a short or long line) and a photo of the bottle opener (they had different shapes in different years).
