Boker Atlas

Post by joeradza »

Just received this all metal Atlas backlock with a clip point. It’s about 3 3/4” closed which is my sweet spot. Blade is dead center and sharp. The lockup is excellent with zero movement. I know some will not like the pocket clip, but it is removable. It’s available as a slipjoint with a spear point or as a wharncliffe in all metal without the black stippling. It’s in my pocket by itself right now but it will also ride second fiddle when I have something a little fancier to pair with it. All in all, it’s a winner.

Hmm. I really like the Douk Douk and two Mercator sizes (the smaller like 3.5" slipjoint and the full-size lockback) for work knives, since they are fairly light and thin for the blades they pack, as well as being tough and of excellent quality for being cheap. 3.75" is also my sweet spot, so looks like that one may be in the future for me as well.

Real Steel (who as, I understand, made these for Boker) made a slipjoint version branded for a British retailer (Heinnie Haynes) that had a sheepsfoot, and it was also offered with scissors (the total variations were--spear, Wharncliffe, sheepsfoot and sheepsfoot with scissors). This is the one I could see myself using the most, as I like having scissors on my "around the house" knife, and Wharnclife/sheepsfoot blades are my preferred style for general use.

I just wish they could make a Boker version for the US market. Heinnie is big enough to get a lot of exclusives--usually slip-joint/friction folder versions of models that are normally lockblade here in the US, and they've had a few Spyderco UKPK exclusives as well.
