Fake/Bad websites to order from

Newly lifted knife laws in a few states in 2023, I'm wondering if any AAPK members have had any bad luck, frauded, not refunded, etc. from any knife bearing companies/websites? like: Blade HQ, PVK, Grindworx, etc. If so, company wise, who & who not to deal with? Me personally, tacticalelements(com) or ordnancedefence(com) look fishy in my opinion, they have a ton of product photos, yet none in stock. Another is with photos of products from a completely different site! BladeHQ photos but not blade hq website. Who don't you deal with?

I tried a website that showed up in my searches one night called Red Knives. They had every kind of knife you can imagine with some decent prices. I put a whole bunch of Moki’s in my cart and they were showing Schatt and Morgan’s and I guess the chance to buy these at these prices was too great. I kept telling myself that this was too good to be true, but didn’t listen to that little voice inside me. When I put in my credit card numbers and submitted order, immediately a PayPal request for 100 dollars popped up. I didn’t send any money via PayPal because that was just too weird. It wasn’t even from the company that I ordered from. I immediately realized that this was a scam and called my credit card company and put a hold on my card. I let a week go by and lifted the hold and wouldn’t you know the credit card company called that same day with suspicious activity showing on my card. Had to cancel the card and get a new one. Didn’t cost me anything other than inconvenience but I felt like a fool. So if you see a website with knives at prices too good to be true, don’t believe it. I haven’t seen that Red Knives website again.

I seldom buy knives online - my first choice is going to a brick-and-mortar retailer where I can examine and handle the merchandise. If I do buy online it’s from a reputable seller I know (there are plenty of them), from a store here on AAPK, or other site where I know they will stand behind me if the seller doesn’t perform. I’ve also bought knives direct from the manufacturer’s site even though their price is a few bucks higher than some online sellers - it’s sorta like buying insurance. I know I’ll get the real thing, not some Chicom fake.

If the deal seems too good to be true, or significantly lower priced than other sellers, keep your money in your pocket!

PVK, GrindWorx and Blade HQ are all legitimate retailers of knives. What about those three makes you suspicious?

LesPaul, that is another fraudulent website. It is operated by criminals behind a vast quantity of websites designed to steal payments for merchandise and obtain credit card numbers. There are many dead giveaways. I won't list them all here as I believe they read this forum. They seem to be upping their game a little. One big clue is the knives that haven't been made or sold in a long time. Another is the use of product photos which use logos of other online sellers. There are many technical underliers.

I really have to Chuckle over the web sites that don’t have contact Numbers.
We (Knife Klan) have to do our jobs and help shut down these fake sites.
The fact is that a great price isn’t all-ways the best price.

My comment isn't about purchasing knives online, but I was looking at parts for my lawnmower and noticed some sites had the same parts for less than half the price. One I looked at did not accept Pay Pal and I knew that was a huge red flag, so I didn't waste a lot of time looking around much further. Established sites like eBay and Amazon offer so many products you can usually find what you need there. I've also began to notice that regular ordinary people like us use the Walmart site to sell their products. I ordered some kitchen fixtures from another seller using the Walmart site that didn't work out and was able to return them to the local Walmart store for a return. That was convenient. It's sad so many bogus sites are allowed to operate in plain view. Caveat Emptor.

I just did a scam search on www.theautoknives.com store, LPL, and the information was vague, but all you really need to do is look at their prices, US$99.95 for a brand new AGA Campolin Zero+ which usually sells for US$250.+, what more does one need to know?
I'd steer clear of them!

I was checking them out, impressed, then tried to purchase one but after punching in my info and card # the screen went to paypal and I couldnt complete. A minute later the FRAUDULENT warning goes off and two minutes later, my bank sends a message of fraudulent activity or web site. Cancelled of course. But save yourselves the hassle. Don't even go there. FYI.
