Collections, Sub-Collections and Family Group Photos

Do all the knives in your collection adhere to a single unifying theme or does your collection consist of smaller sub-collections that share common characteristics whether it be a particular pattern, handle material, blade type, etc.? Show your collection, sub-collections or pics of groups of related knives from your collection/accumulation here.


Over the years, my collecting focus has changed a few times; so, my knife collection consists of multiple sub-collections.

Within my Mini Trapper collection is this sub-collection of limited edition Case 1ST RUN 207WHSS Wharncliffe Mini Trappers. The complete set consists of five different colored handles: Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Honey, with each color having two different Wharncliffe blade types: Plain & Serrated. Total production run was 500 of each color/Wharncliffe blade combination.

Main interest is Camillus 72's and their copies, then Camillus no line tang stamp then WW2 pocket knives and the last group is "where did all these come from???".

I like to concentrate strictly on the helter skelter, hodge podge approach to collecting. But I do occasionally stray away from that strict guideline.

Sounds like you have at least three sub-collections worthy of family group photos, Floyd. No time like the present to get them on record and posted for posterity.

Although Spyderco calls the Delica 4 blade a "Modified Wharncliffe", only one in my Delica 4 sub-collection has what I consider a Wharncliffe blade.

Helter-skelter is fun too. Here are a few of my cased assemblages; most of mine are housed in a typographer's cabinet, a large(12 drawer)retail cigar cabinet, multiple briefcases, large wallpaper display boxes,blueprint cabinets,& old silverware boxes.

Well, I have a collection of folding knives from different countries around the world, with about 60 countries represented.

I also have a collection/accumulation of pearl handled knives, by manufacturer/tang stamp. I don't want to think about how many of those I have...

I have a small accumulation of knives that I have re-handled/refurbished.

I have a collection of pen knives/"Gentleman's knives", mostly just things that interested me at the time.

I have an accumulation of older knives with (possibly) some historical significance.

Here are some of the collection from different countries.

Q, you always have a great collection of knives. I like seeing all those in sub catergories together like that. Here is one that I posted recently in “other Seki made” thread. It’s a sub group of A.G. Russell knives that I have acquired. I have a fairly large collection of A.G. Russell and Japanese made knives, especially Moki’s. These were made in Seki Japan for A.G. Russell, the white one is from 1996 and the other 3 are from 2002.

All of these displays are just awesome!
I have tried to come up with different ways to display but just cant get set on any particular methods. I do have Queens, Robesons, Schats, Winchester and a couple other than Queen mades like GEC and Moki and mcAlevys in their own areas within the larger display case. But I like how youall heve done things. very nice.

JKB: If you're talking about my display, that's a TRUAX (British?) 2-blade nutter. The one above it is a TEOFEL, Philadelphia.

Which, I should point out, was my original inspiration for this thread. Thanks for posting them here, Carl.

When I started this thread my thinking was that it would be nice to have a single place that was like browsing tables at a knife show since I don't get to enjoy that privilege where I live. So far, everyone who has posted photos has contributed to making that happen. I find myself poring over all the knives in everyone's collections exactly as if I were at a real knife show. I also enjoy knowing the reason(s) for the sub-collections like beresman's collection of knives from around the world, which I find very interesting.
Hopefully others will continue to add their collections and eventually we'll have the largest virtual knife show ever created.

Here are a few of my cased assemblages

I am curious about the fixed blade knives in leather sheaths. I've learned the hard way that that is not a good idea, at least here in Hawaii where I live, because the leather holds moisture that corrodes the knife steel. Is that not an issue where you live, knife7, or do you store your collections in some kind of climate controlled environment?

I'll add this one. My very first theme of knife collecting began when I was only 10 or so. My grandfather was a member of the NKCA, and so he started buying me the yearly "NKCA Youth Knife" each year when they were offered. When I turned 16, he told me if I wanted to continue the collection, I had to man up and take charge. I ended up buying each year after, along with filling in a few missing earlier ones. And then got a bit obsessed and bought a lot of the prototypes offered for possible selection by the NKCA (some of which were chosen, some not).
