Two Hard To Find Antique Knife Patterns
Picked up a pair of unusual pocket knives this past weekend.
One is a Doctors knife with a cork screw on back marked - Zenith Marshal Wells.
The other is an odd shaped lobster with a tortoise shell nail cleaner on the back, marked OVB - Hibbard Spencer Barlett & Co.
Both of these knives are likely made by New York Knife Co.

Great finds. I’ve often wondered why more physician’s knifes were not made with corkscrews, given that so many medicines back in the day came in bottles having stoppers.

Very nice! I want to say there was a Dr. knife with a corkscrew shown here years ago, but that may just be my imagination. Regardless, that’s a rare knife in my limited experience. Very, very cool!

It's posts like this that help me reinforce my belief that New York Knife Co. was, in my mind, the finest knife manufacture in the country.1fartsmella wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 12:48 am Both of these knives are likely made by New York Knife Co.
Barry, you must have an amazing collection. It's a pleasure to view these knives.

Awesome pair of knives. I love finding any NYK knives but especially Marshall Wells ones because they started out just down the road from my home. I've never seen a MW DR's knife, not to mention one with a cork screw.____Dave

Nice catch Barry, both are quite uncommon ("unusual" has already been used several times) and very cool !

Wow Barry those are some incredible finds!!! From the Lehigh Valley show? That lobster just might have been made by Warwick Knife Co but I can't say for sure. Don't recall seeing any US manufactured knives with tortoise implements, that's a first.

Nice finds Barry.
I've never seen bone like that on the Dr's knife.

Re: Two Hard To Find Antique Knife Patterns
Interesting pair of knives. Could the corkscrew be there because Laudanum came in cork sealed bottles?
