U.S. Cutlery Co. Baltimore MD
I just picked up this little knife today for $15, and I'm curious about the manufacturer. Goins' book lists them as being in business 1875-1900, but nothing else about them. It also lists a company by the same name but in St. Louis, having the same dates of operation. Were these the same company, with two locations? Is there any more info about them out there? I did a quick Google search, but didn't go really deep.

Levine shows Terre Haute and St. Louis (c.1900), no Baltimore. I'm from Baltimore, PM me if you're looking to sell it. Thanks J.O'.

Very cool stamp and it looks like there's some nice fire in the pearl.

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

I collect by unusual tang stamp, so I'm keeping this one, but if I find another, for sure!Ridgegrass wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 1:25 am Levine shows Terre Haute and St. Louis (c.1900), no Baltimore. I'm from Baltimore, PM me if you're looking to sell it. Thanks J.O'.

This 4 blade cattle knife is stamped "US CUT CO BALTO MD". I believe this knife was made by New York Knife Co.

Re: U.S. Cutlery Co. Baltimore MD
U,S. Cut Co Baltimore was a combined short lived effort between several cutlery companies. Schrade Cut Co and NY Knife Co were two but there were also one or two more, possibly Challenge or one of the other New England companies but I can't recall off the top of my head. I had saved an old article announcing that effort but I'm not sure where I saved it, Ugh! It'll turn up eventually.

John, That oval shield makes me think Schrade made. Is it 3 1/8" closed?
A nice keepsake.
I miss Roland.

Schrade used that pattern with the oval shield for many blade configurations.
Pen Knives, Jacks, stock man, whittlers, 4 blades
Celluloid, bone, pearl and maybe stag (I bet Lloyd has a stag one).
Thanks for sharing.

Re: U.S. Cutlery Co. Baltimore MD
I think that U.S. Cut. Co. sold seconds from several manufacturers, I have definitely seen one with a Keen Kutter (Walden) stamp overstamped with the U.S. Cut. Co. stamp and several NYK stamps overstamped the same. The Washington jack looks like a Schrade. The one commonality between them is that they were all Walden N.Y. based cutleries, don't know if that is a coincidence. Here is an English jack that looks to be Walden, the stamp is a little hard to read but it is a U.S. Cutlery:

Nice old knives from a "maker" (jobber?) I never heard of. Thanks for posting. Always good to expand knife knowledge.
