Most certainly in the wrong sub forum but not sure where to post. Years ago I brought this unmarked tomahawk because I felt it was similar to the kind used in Vietnam. Does anyone out there know about these. Don't worry about hurting my feelings on value as I only paid $5 for it.
Re: ID requested
Can’t help with info. But I like it. Does look like Vietnam type. Darned sure no down side on $5.
You can always get more money, good old knives are hard to find.

If someone has suggestion onto a different sub forum, I would appreciate the advise.
Re: ID requested
I did find this information regarding original Vietnam tomahawk.
I think your hawk was made in the late 70’s early 80’s when there was a surge in blackpowder shooting when Jeremiah Johnson movie came out. Not exactly period correct for fur trade reinactors but looks like it should. You can always get more money, good old knives are hard to find.

The OP hawk looks nothing like a "Vietnam" hawk. I had one like the OP hawk in the early 1960s, I think it cost under two bucks. I know they made them through the 1970s, maybe later.

With the help of another blade collector, I was directed to a site with information on this hawk. It was made by the Sheldon-Wells company of Kinzua, Pa. Made in the 1940' till the 1950's. They built other styles as well. This is known as the Lewis pattern. Many are credited (rightly or wrongly) with WW 2 provenance. Over the decades most have sold in the $300 to $400 price range. There in one now on EBAY with a $900 + starting bid.

I have one just like it. I'll to dig it out for some pictures. I might even list it here on AAPK for sale. ... I guess $895 would be a real steal! ... I hope I don't get swamped with buyers fighting over it at that price.....3030remchesterCOLO wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 7:28 pm There in one now on EBAY with a $900 + starting bid.
