Bench polisher and buffing

Thinking about getting one and doing a little research and thought I’d ask here. Comments and suggestions appreciated

There are a lot to choose from, but if I had one recommendation, it is to choose one that is either low speed or variable speed.
Putting a buffing wheel onto a 3500 RPM bench grinder is NOT a good option.
Of you have a drill press, add a buffing wheel onto an arbor and chuck it into the drill press. That is what I use.

If you can find a reasonably priced dental lathe (polisher), that may be something to look into. Most are dual speed and use tapered shafts-so you can change buffs and attachments easily. Ebay is a good place to look.

An old electric motor with double shafts will accept threaded adapters that will take buffing wheels, many are 1725rpm.

I've got a nice baldor, but lately, I've been enjoying a Jet with 900 and 1800 rpm speeds.

The one I have takes six inch buffing wheels. It is what I had, originally purchased for other reasons, and it works okay. That said, if I was buying one specifically for knife work, I would not go any smaller than eight inch.
