Post by bigdavemac »

Hello everyone. I am hoping to find out if this is a bayonet or sword and any other information I can find out about it. Maker, Age, Country, Value?
Thanks in advance. Dave

I did an google lens image lookup on one of your pics and got a lot of hits for "Bersaglieri bayonet".
I think yours falls into a similar or maybe even exact category as a Sabre bayonet. Happy hunting, or spearing as it might be.
Its a cool piece!

I would say it's basically a bayonet. The groove in the handle makes it capable of sliding over the lug on the end of a rifle (release on the back of the handle/grip). The length of the blade allows it to serve as a sword when needed. Just my opinion. Someone else may have more accurate information. It's quite old.

Edit: Took too long, huntin' and peckin'. Someone beat me to it.
