What is your favorite Pattern to carry?

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

What is your favorite Pattern to carry?

Post by josephashaw »

So, I have spent quite a bit of time looking at my knives trying to figure out the most practical pattern to carry. I have a different brand OTF automatic that I normally wear, but I really like the large stockman (718) and the large trapper (717) to possiby carry as a second knife for general use. How about you? I had bought a used congress with one serated blade (712) that I was planning on putting on new scales but I think the blades are a little small for my tastes.

I rotate my carry so often that I don’t really have a favorite pattern but for the last 3 or 4 years it has been various types of single blade locking folders.

Today, it’s a Spyderco Para 3 with a Compression Lock but it might be something different tomorrow or next week.

Generally speaking, my favorite pattern to carry is whatever pattern I have in my pocket that day.

I tend to lean toward the large trapper and large stockman for EDCs. Sundays get a smaller knife and of course a folding hunter is close by during deer season. During the days I'm decked out in my favorite bib overalls, there is usually some sort of tactical with a pocket clip in the breast pocket. This knife protects my "good" knife in my pocket from abuse that I didn't used to consider.

Large stockman. Clip, spay and sheepfoot. Big enough to do some work (more than simply opening packages) if needed. 3 different blades made for a variety of uses.

Doglegg, I don't think that I have seen that pattern before.....it has two coping blades (the one on the left that is fully extended, looks backward....maybe I am seeing it wrong and it is not a coping blade), but set up as a Stockman or Whittler without the split spring. Nice knife....in great shape for its age! - JS

Okay...I just could not see the one blade on the left clearly in your picture. I like those. Thanks.

Bought this old Craftsman "Sta-Sharp" Crown/Coffin jack by HIGH-CARBON STEEL (Camillus) about a month ago. Been carrying it since. Nice, tough and very sharp. Really like the pattern J.O'.

My favorite carry pattern is the Schrade 804. My very favorite carry knife is this Craftsman version with a tipped blade that I reshaped.

The "HIGH CARBON STEEL" mark was c. 1930's for Sears, from what I've read. J.O'.
