If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Gene Hackman R.I.P.

Post by PringleTree »

Truly, one of the greats. One of my all-time favorite actors.

He was right up there with Gregory Peck and Jimmy Stewart. I’d be hard pressed to say which one was my favorite because they all are.

He did not have the classic good looks of a Gregory Peck or Clark Gable, but boy did he ever have talent. If I had to pick a favorite movie of his, I think it would be Mississippi Burning.

I hated his Little Bill character in Unforgiven, but loved his character in Royal Tenenbaums. A talented actor. 💯

Ha!
Me too, John, I really didn't care for little Bill, but I'd be hard pressed to come up with another role he did that I didn't like. ::hmm:: ::shrug::
It certainly was a surprise, especially since his wife and child passed too, but don't forget he WAS 95 yrs. old, so perhaps it was completely natural, but then, that brings us back to the wife and child.
I'm just now reading that it was a hoax and he and the others are alive and well. Who knows! ::shrug::
All this info is from the net, so if any or all is incorrect, blame the media!

Being from Indiana and a big basketball fan, his part as the coach in the movie Hoosiers was the greatest of all time.

I just watched Runaway Jury in honor of Gene. What a fantastic talent. He was a man of many special talents.

There was no child involved.

Hackman was ninety-five, his wife, Betsy, a concert pianist, was sixty-three.

Women are usually well protected from cardiac death until after menopause, unless they have genetically induced terrible hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipidemia.

If the above stated is true. Gene had a horrible few days.

Amen to that Paul. Hoosiers is one of my favorite movies, filmed in the old Knighstown gym just about 40 miles from where I live. You can go into the gym and it looks exactly like it did in the movie, it’s a pretty nice experience to go in there. Hackman did an amazing job in that movie. Sad that he is gone.

The reporting of the medical examiner is so sad. She says that Mrs. Hackman died of pulmonary illness about a week before her husband. Apparently Mr. Hackman was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease and according to the M.E., probably didn't even know his wife was dead during the time between their deaths.

They chose to live a reclusive life, and it contributed to this sad ending.

Betsy died of Hantavirus, which I think iwas the cause of the so-called, “Legionaire’s Disease” that killed several American Legion members following a convention in Las Vegas, I think.

The virus grows in rodent feces and probably other culture media.

That is a very sad story and event.

And Hoosiers is my all-time favorite Gene Hackman movie and one of the best sports movies ever made.

Not the same, hantavirus caused by a virus, Legionaires caused by a bacteria. Legionaires grows in damp conditions like water pipes and hot tubs. Hantavirus in the dry conditions of the desert Southwest. The first cases of Legionaires was in Philadelphia at a Legionaires convention in 1976.

Yes and I was operating chilled water refrigeration machines at the time and we had to start putting different chemicals in our closed system and having the water check daily for bacteria by the lab. ::handshake::
