Lockback Repair

Post by dlr110 »

I'm trying to repair an old no name lockback that is about the size of a Buck 112 that spent some time
in a lake. Everything seems to be good except the scales and this, the part that keeps the tension on
the backspring. Does anyone know where I can get one or who could make one. I don't have the tools
to make it.

That looks similar to the Schrade LB3/LB5/LB7 spring configuration. When I get Schrade springs that are broken I cut the spring off at the break, cut a groove in the piece thats left and add some flat spring material from Jantz. Or I fashion a new piece for the spring retainer and add some flat spring from Jantz. Here's some info in an old post of mine: viewtopic.php?p=816983&hilit=schrade+br ... ng#p816983
Hope this helps.

Thank you so much Jeff, now I know and understand how to do it, I'm a visual kind of guy and your pictures told me just about all I needed to know. This knife really means nothing to me and has no monetary value, but a friend of mine at church found it while fishing years ago and just had it laying around. One day, having seen knives that I had cleaned and put new scales on, he gave it to me to see if it could be cleaned up, but before I could do anything with it he passed away. Now I want to do my best to fix the knife to some level of working order and give it to his son as a remembrance of their time fishing together.
