How can I tell how old this is?

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

How can I tell how old this is?

I hadn’t seen a ka bar pocket knife before so I picked it up for $35 but I can’t tell how old it is or if I got burnt or not. Anyone have a clue. There’s no markings on it besides ka bar.

My assumption would be that it is late 1940's to early 50's era as the KABAR has the dash in the middle. Gunsil is our resident Kabar expert; hope that he sees this thread and responds.

Welcome here, TNr3dn3ck87.
I don't think you got burnt at all. You've got a hardly used serpentine pen knife with some sort of composition covers in good condition.
It's a Ka-Bar; that's got to be worth something. A nice little carry knife. ::nod::

I would take one of these over a Chi-Comm knife any day.

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!
