Perfect Nail Nik Tool?

Post by buckkiller58 »

Hello, Maybe I'm a candy ass, But i got weak nails! I have recently been buying alot of knives from the 40's to the 80's and some haven't been opened from the day the original owner bought them! So... they have original oil that has hardened some and alot are a bear to open. What are some of the nail nik tools that you guys have come up with? Right now the best I've come up with is a floorplate from an ar-15 magazine! (i need to do better), Luv to have a non-metal tool! I just dont want to be the one to screw up these old unused beauties! Thanks,RED

What you’re looking for is called a “knife pick”. A search for that on Amazon or eBay will find them for sale. I have a knife pick on my keychain. But in a pinch, fold a business card in half, slide the fold into the blade well and under the blade. Then pull up while holding the knife by its covers.

Just a few days back there's a post where one of us chose nail clippers as his nick tool, small, compact and pretty well suited for the job too. Plus you could clip and file your nails. I thought a straight-angled set would be good. Might dull the edge for good measure...

PM your shipping information to me and I'll send
you ONE of the blade openers pictured below.
NO MONEY INVOLVED. Nothing fancy here. I put
it in an envelope, address it, slap a "forever"
stamp on it, and mail it. No tracking.

Went upstairs and literally had one of the straight-angle clippers staring at me so I gave it a try on some stubborn knives, I have to say it worked so well that I was surprised. The smaller clipper head really got into tight spots. It's a sure-grip-no-slip. That may have to be my tag line when I rename it as a pocket knife tool for $27. ::super_happy::

I use the folded paper method mentioned earlier. Lightweight, will
not scratch the blade.
