1991 Austin Yogurt Shop Murders apparently finally solved

From news reports on Friday, it appears that the 1991 Yogurt Shop Murders in Austin, Texas, may have finally been solved using DNA. The perpetrator being a serial killer, Robert Eugene Brashers, who killed himself in a 1999 standoff with police at a motel in Missouri. Austin Police have scheduled a news conference for Monday, September 29.

Brashers killed a woman in South Carolina in 1990 and a mother and daughter in Missouri in 1998. He was also connected to raping a 14-year-old girl in Tennessee in 1997.

Hopefully, this may bring some measure of peace to the families and friends of the four girls killed at the yogurt shop.

This crime really shocked the Austin community in December of 1991. Even a grizzled old-timer like me shed tears over this. I was working in Austin and in the process of re-locating here from San Antonio. I had 2 daughters who matched up in age with those killed.
There is a recent documentary on HBO that is detailed and factual regarding this crime and it is worth checking out.
I heard that they exhumed the body of Brashers in order to collect his DNA.
Some of the parents of victims have passed but I know the families still with us are relieved.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding the HBO documentary. I'm not familiar with it so I will have to find it. I have seen Dateline? episodes over the years regarding this crime, all hosted by Erin Moriarity, I think. She seems to be pretty heavily invested in the story, especially its impact on the families. I'm sure we will be seeing an updated episode from her.

I heartily recommend the HBO doc. There are 4 episodes and they are loaded with info. A local ex-policeman with whom I am sort of acquainted put me onto it.
It still brings me to tears. You'll 'get acquainted' with the ladies in a sense.
