Music anyone
I can live without the tv but I need to listen to tunes. I enjoy almost all music, from classic rock to blue grass and motown. I consider myself a die hard Hendrix fan, I still have a collection of lp's and a turntable hooked up to my stereo. I still look for lp's when I go to flea markets. Here's a few other than Hendrix, Skynyrd, Clapton, BB King, Zeplin, Ozzy(Black Sabbath), ZZ Top, Ralph Stanley. As you can see from the list that my taste is pretty diverse. However, todays music just does'nt do it for me. the daughter always tells me I'm stuck in the 60's and 70's, I tell her I do have cd's you know. She did however almost bring to me to tears on her wedding day when she had the dj play Hendrix's Little Wing for our last dance. So lets hear what some of yun'z listen to.

Hi Crush. Good topic
I too am stuck in the 60s-70s as far as many of my tastes go....although I was a little too young to remeber the sixties first hand. Oops just gave a way my age
I like primarily classic/album rock and blues. The list would be way too long. Anything to do with Eric Clapton, Neil young is one of my favs, older Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd saw them in Rice Stadium (Houston) quite awhile back and still one of my all time favourite live shows. Others I like Tom Petty, REM, Counting Crows, Dire Straits, The Police, Blondie, Cheryl Crow and Coldplay. Just to name some. Old stuff like the beatles, rolling stones, the Who, etc. Blues I like BB King, John Lee Hooker, some newer blues/rock guys like Jeff Healey and Jonny Lang. At risk of becoming unpopular, I don't really care much for country music
. Must get back to work now. Have a great day everyone

S-K and crush both have listed some great bands and musicians so I'd like to add some more. The Outlaws, Allman bros., Robin Trower, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Kiss. A couple of newer bands that aren't around any more? I like are Stone Temple Pilots and Candlebox.
One musician that I have to mention is Rory Gallagher. IMO he was one of the best guitarists to ever live. Even though many people here in the U.S. never heard of him. Talk about blues! Man he could play.
There are so many others I could mention but I'd be here all day and I've been rambling on too much already so I'll be ending it here.

I've always been partial to Guitar players of any and all types of music.....
Let me look over here, hmmmm, here are a few...
Robben Ford, Stevie Ray, Santana, Hendrix, Clapton, Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Healey, Steve Earle, Chet Atkins, Marc Antoine, Sonny Landrith, Joe Satriani, Link Wray, Dick Dale.....
Well, as you can see my Music collecting is almost as rudderless as my Knife collecting.

All types of music is what you'll find in my collection. At the gym, I listen to Rammstein (don't want to be able to understand the lyrics) Dropkick Murphies, Pantera, and Van Halen--anything to wake me up at 5am. Last couple of years though, preference for during the day has been jazz/swing/big band. Benny Goodman, Indigo Swing, Louie Armstrong, and Ella Fitzgerald are in the cd player now. Solomon Burke helps to wind down and so does some good old time gospel. Like I said --quite a variety!

Congrats Matt;
You just reached back into my memory banks.
How about the Andrew sisters,Frank,Dino,Sammy D, If you want to hear something neat try to find a 78 of The Bugle Boy of Company C., sorry dont remember band or vocalist.
Dont forget the Dorsey's or Tex Benarke,Glenn Miller and the greatest horn man Harry James.
If you have no recollection of these you might ask your parents or grand parents.
Thanks for the memories;
W.B.
Edit; I remember a lot of these sitting in front of a radio bigger than I was.

How about this. a blugrass tribute to AC-DC. I heard a short clip on a local radio station WDVE and it sounded interesting to say the least. Anyway I went to a local mall to look and the people in the music store just looked at me like I was nuts, of course they did'nt have it, so I went to the Barnes and Noble book store, the guy in the record dept. actually knew what I was talking about
, he said that they only had one copy and someone bought it the other day, but he would be glad to order it for me. Well it's ordered
. Now I ask you, what could be better than head banging music set to bluegrass? I guess I'll find out in about a week!!

Crush,
Glad to see someone threw that group in the mix.
HD really does a good job with "Back in Black", IMO.
They opened the show for AC/DC's last tour in Australia several years ago.
They also have a CD out of Led Zeppelin and another of Rock love songs, Mountain Love
They have released another, but it is not out in the States yet.
Their website should give you tour dates & other info. Last time I checked, they were in smiling-knife's
area. I'm sure they will be back pickin' here, at least in the Eastern part of the United States.
You also may find a member or two of AC/DC in the crowd, if you look closely.
Check them out if they are ever in your neck of the woods

My list of favorites is o so long and diverse also. I broke down and bought an ipod a while back. (I don't know how I ever got by without it / I HIGHLY recomend getting one).
I've been transfering cd's as I get time. First on went... Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Stones, Beatles, Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr., Johny Cash, CCR, Skynyrd, Dire Straits, Jimmy Hendrix, AC/ DC...
Also to be added... Ted Nugent, Guns and Roses, Janice Joplin, Ozzy Ozzbourne, Black Crows, Nirvana, Bob Seger, Pearl Jam, U2, Fleetwood Mac... Geez, I could go on and on.
Hey Bill,
Do you play? I don't, but my dad, one of my close uncles, and all their rowdy friends always have. I grew up with the sounds of Les Pauls and stratocasters plugged into Black faced Fender amps filling the entire house with pretty good noise. I'm lucky not to be deaf
They had a band for a while. My uncle can sing like no-one I've heard. My Boss says he's her favorite singer of all time. If I can get permission, I'll see if I can get a few songs they recorded put online here.
Mr. Tinytoothpick on these forums is the uncle I'm speaking of btw...
If he finds this thread it'll be right up his alley.

Speaking of guitars. Here's a couple of mine. A Gibson Les Paul XR-1 and a Squire P- Bass. I also have a Squire Strat and an old Sears Silvertone, one with the amp built in the case. If you look at the bass you could see where I Dremeled Case xx on the pickguard. I did that one morning before I went to have a stent put in my heart. But that's another story.
El Lobo, I think playing drums is much harder than guitar. You need a whole lot more coordination to play. I seen Buddy Rich on the Tonight show, man he blew me away. A few of other drummers I liked were Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Keith Moon & Bill Ward. Alot of the late 60's and early 70's drummers really played, compaired to the drummers after that time.

I'm always impressed with the musical talents of others. Me on the otherhand...this is about the only thing musical I can play. Having practiced on this particular model for about 12 years I have just about mastered it
. Have a great weekend everyone

Ha, Ha, Ha...
Very good S-K.
JOE62, those are nice...don't let Case see your guitar they might come after you for aftermarket mods! Just kidding, of course.
I saw Buddy Rich draw a circle around a silver dollar, and play a drum solo inside the circle
, on the Tonight Show. One of a kind, in my opinion.
We used to go and watch Dick Dale (if you don't recognize the name, think the song from Pulp Fiction [Miserlou]) play surf music. He double picks most every note, and would melt 3-4 picks during the course of a show. That's where I learned that celluloid smells bad when it burns.
Man, I'm getting old.

I may be an extreme minority here, but I STILL love 80's hairbands! Skid Row, Cinderella, early G-n-R, WhiteSnake(for the videos), Twisted Sister, even a little Billy Idol, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Jane's Addiction, Candlebox, Sublime, Alter Bridge(Creed with a new singer), Nickleback, Rage Against the Machine,... Pretty much anything that can be stripped down to three chords and a snare drum.
