Re: Case Tested xx
What is the closed length of the knife? Measure carefully as there are three different patterns that look like it, but vary in length by 1/4 inch or less. The values are significantly different. Also, anyone asking for values from pictures should read this viewtopic.php?t=77592. The shield on the knife looks like a newer version shield (open C, flat S) than was used during the Tested era. Would need more pictures or in-hand closer look of it - might be re-handled.
Once it is determined what pattern it is, usually the best source for value is an advanced search of eBay, sold listings only of the knife, if you can find one or more like it that have been sold.

Re: Case Tested xx
See my edited post - I’m unsure that it’s authentic. Would be good to get some others opinions. All of the stag large stockmans are high value but the 75s are the most valued. Sure tempting for a counterfeiter to put stag on one. Too bad they didn’t stamp pattern numbers on most Tested knives - that makes it easier for someone to put stag on a knife that originally had something else for covers. The inletting around the shield is a little sloppier than I’d expect to see. It doesn’t look like Tested era stag - looks like Sambar but hard to say from the pictures. Can you get a picture from top down showing the thickness of the handle covers?

Re: Case Tested xx
Thanks. That’s what I was afraid of seeing. Tested stag is typically thin. Sambar is thicker, but in my experience Sambar was not used until around 1960s, in any case well after the Tested stamp was discontinued.
Sorry to say I think it’s not original, but that’s just my opinion. Would be good to get some other opinions. Maybe Steve Pfeiffer and Tom McCandless or other knowledgeable collectors will see this and give their thoughts.

Those pictures are from Tom McCandless's latest book. He's a member here so hopefully he will see your post. Note the closed C and tall S letters in the shields in his book. Unlike the letters on the shield on your knife.

Yes i do notice the difference if someone was to have rehandled the knife but it is the corect frame for the tested xx stockman
How much does that effect the value in your opinion

Re: Case Tested xx
The pictures on this post also come from my new book, OLD KNIVES, TESTED XX and MORE" . The article explains the era for the TESTED ERA 1920-40 shield, the XX ERA shield 1940-64, and the USA ERA shield, 1965-69. It is one of the most important things to look for in determining the authenticity of a knife. The article explains that why it is possible to have a shield of a transitional era that could be proper what you shouldn't see is a knife that has a shield that skips an era, such as a USA 1965-69 shield on a TESTED era 1920-40 era knife. The book also has articles on GERALD WITCHER, who wrote a great book on counterfeiting and let me use pieces from the book, also articles on ROBERT WELLS and ROGER CUNNINGHAM, know here as PEANUT740.

Re: Case Tested xx
Aside from what people have already shared about the shield and the stag, the contrast between the backs of the blades when in close position compared to the view of the knife showing the backsprings... the blades look brand new, while the springs look like an older knife? How about a close up of the tang stamp, that should reveal quite a bit. Its hard to see the stamp in your photos.
I think we'd all be curious to know what you were told about the knife, where you got it, and what stories it might have come with. Did you find it in an estate sale lot? Did you buy it on ebay? None of this confirms or disputes the knife's authenticity, but sometimes that can help give clues. Levine is famous for saying "read the knife", and I don't disagree, but I think most of us here also like to consider the story as well, even if it proves nothing...
