LKSKNIVES wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 1:17 am Good evening all,
Not sure I should be carrying this one. Even though I am not a knife collector this is the style I like. I think I have heard you term it as a HOK. As you can see it is missing part of the small blade has a pin crack on one side and a crack the whole length on the other side.
What I would like to do is get it tightened up I would like to go on carrying it but don’t want it too fall apart. If anyone has suggestions im listening.IMG_7945.jpegIMG_7944.jpegIMG_7941.jpeg
Please enjoy another knife out of dad’s (LK’S) collection or accumulation.
Steve
I am about the farthest thing from being an expert as it gets, Steve, but even my untrained eye knows you're holding onto a rare and likely valuable knife. A good one to remember your Dad by.
If it were mine, IMHO, I would MAYBE, MAYBE grind the tip of the broken pen blade to perhaps a spear-point, but short of that I'd leave it as is and use it as a reverse-tanto blade. I'm not seeing any signs of the cracks you mentioned, perhaps they're not as prominent as you're thinking. ::shrug:: I bet your knife feels great in-hand, and those warm bone covers, well.....!
As John stated, "Hen's-Teeth"! Oh, and in case you didn't know, "HOK" stands for "Honest Old Knife"!

You know, with the weather I've experienced over the years, a stretch of 117 degrees doesn't even surprise me all that much anymore, in fact, we have spreads that big when it changes from season to season. Not every season nor all the time, bur we had one summer that had a comparison that big.
Oh yah for sweet home Arizona!

I told yall in the beginning that I carry a different knife every day. Today is a Boker congress. I have 2 Bokers, but the other one I bought at Sportsman's Warehouse in Southaven MS. It was purchased new from a retail store. The quality is sub par.

I was brought up with the thought that Boker was quality. This one seems to be very nice. The other one not so much. Anyway I am not positive, but I feel sure this came from an antique store somewhere. I just remember that when I got it, I don't think it had ever been sharpened. I mean that it had no edge on it at all. Let's just say it is quite sharp now. I like the wood scales on it. Comments welcome.

NCC1701 wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 3:51 pm As I said before, I carry something different everyday. Some people rescue animals, some people rescue other items. I rescue pocket knives. This is one that I saw and I could not leave at the antique mall. It is an Old Timer Lumberjack. If you will notice that it has scratches on all of the blades. it looks like someone hit each blade with some type of grinder right in the middle of the side of the blade. I have worked on the blades with sandpaper and tried to get the scratches out. It is a work in progress, but I have come to be very fond of this knife. It is quite large for a stockman, but it has a leather sheath and I carry it that way.
Good stuff my friend. And I am the same, it is very difficult for me to pass on knives like this when I see them. Even if i don't use them I will still buy the knife and go home to try to clean it up a little bit. Plus it is absolutely impossible for me to not snatch up an Old Timer.
