The blade looks brand new to me.
Do they even do vertical jigging? Remember I am new at this. But I do like learning.

Re: Suspect Toothpic..ebay
I’ve heard that called “alligator jig”, which is seen on some fakes. I’ve seen some authentic jigging that might be described as “vertical”. That ain’t it! The jigging “gouges” on that one are way too wide.

A copying machine. The pantograph was invented back in the 17th century, and has been continuously improved upon since then. There are many different kinds and uses. For example in recent context the “auto pen” is a type of pantograph used to reproduce a signature. In the context of my prior post it’s used to create/engrave a copy of an original item (the Case shield).winst wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2026 7:25 pmHay cowboy what is a pantograph?Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2026 2:30 am That shield!Looks like it was made on a pantograph.

From Wikipedia: “A pantograph is a mechanical linkage connected in a manner based on parallelograms so that the movement of one pen or stylus, in tracing an image, produces mimic movements recorded by a second pen. If a line drawing is traced by the first point, an identical, enlarged, or miniaturized copy will be drawn by a pen fixed to the other. Using the same principle, different kinds of pantographs are used for other forms of duplication in areas such as sculpting, minting, engraving, and milling.”
They are fairly common. Depending on what you want to use it for you can purchase one on eBay for under $100, up to $$ several thousand. My sister-in-law had one that came from a jewelry shop for sale in her antique shop for a few hundred dollars. Most jewelers who do engraving have one. With it the operator could reproduce (engrave) a tang stamp, a shield, etc. However an observant eye can usually detect the tell-tale signs where the laser or carving instrument started and stopped during the process. As opposed to a “stamped” version created at one strike into the metal, having no beginning or ending point.

Here is a drawing depicting a pantograph machine in operation. On the right is the human hand using the stylus to trace the item being copied. On the left is the duplicate copy being created.
