Stories to tell. What a knife was meant for!Dinadan wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 3:19 pm Thanks for the comments, Fellows.
Nice Copperhead, Charlie. Fortunately, I like snakes so I would be happy to find either kind.
Here is the knife with the shield I posted above. These old Schrades were made in an era when a man used a tool until there was nothing left to use.

It seems to me that the sheepsfoot and the coping blades got used up more than any others. I can understand that since they are two of my favorite blades.

Re: Knife Photography
Interesting handles on that knife. I do not recognize the material.
Nice photos, Alan. You are good with the dark background shots.
Very modern looking knife. Nice!

Thanks. Black jeans next to a window, expose for the bright knife and the background disappears

Re: Knife Photography
Case has offered several patterns with sycamore handles and they have also offered colors like black or blue. The saddlehorn I posted has natural sycamore, The wood has beautiful grain.

Re: Knife Photography
When I was growing up out in the country we had sycamores on on our property. I remember my dad saying that sycamore was too brittle to make a good tool handle, and did not last long enough for a good fence post. So I do not recall seeing any cut or sawed pieces ever. Seeing that knife makes me curious about what I missed.

Re: Knife Photography
I'm not sure but I would imagine that Case stabilizes the wood for use as handle material. I think the way the wood takes die is very cool. Below is a pic I swiped off ebay of blue sycamore handles.Dinadan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 2:15 pm When I was growing up out in the country we had sycamores on on our property. The only shield I’ve ever lost. I dropped it on the marble floor at Grand Central Terminal and never saw it again.

Beautiful turquoise, Charlie!
The knife still looks good, Alan! Is there no way to get a replacement shield?
