The top pic is of all Great Eastern Cutlery knives. The middle pic is of all old Schrades. The last pic is of 2 old Imperials with solid bolsters and handles, and a Hibbard Spencer and Bartlett cattle knife.

The top pic is of all Great Eastern Cutlery knives. The middle pic is of all old Schrades. The last pic is of 2 old Imperials with solid bolsters and handles, and a Hibbard Spencer and Bartlett cattle knife.

It's interesting Cal, the way you have those shots laid out by company, it is easy to spot the similarities in the celluloid by company. The Schrade is quite distinctive, though it is seemingly a random pattern as are the others. The Imperial celluloid looks quite similar to one another even though the colors are different.
The GEC handles have a quality about them that is unique and random, but at the same time similar.
That is the first old GEC celluloid I have seen (that I knew what it was).

Perhaps an interesting new topic in Knife Lore would be on the celluloid patterns of the old companies.

new finds...camp knife is american knife co., winsted conn. it has a broken can opener...the punch has a bent tip...cell is marginal, as is the photograph...sorry.
the knife is missing it's bail.

oops..forgot the knife...an imperial...i am not going to call this a camp knife...since the one blade is for cleaning a pipe...
this beastie is 2 and one eight inchs overall lenght.

Hummm......
I really haven't seen a lot of the new GEC acrylic handles.
I have a muskrat with Midnight Blue acrylic that I was a bit disappointed with.
It looks different than those, so I assumed those were old celluloid handles.
Thats is what I get for assuming!

The GEC's are ""NOT"" celluloid_____they are acrylic___GEC,has never scaled any of the knives with celluloid

You guys are right.
I slipped a mental gear. I was confusing Great Eastern Cutlery with the old companies who's names they use like Tidioute and Northfield which were actual companies.
Of course it would be acrylic.......GEC was established within the last few years.
The use of celluloid on knives in the US stopped sometime in the 1940s or 1950s according to Dennis Ellingsen, http://www.oregonknifeclub.org/celluloid_02.html

hey gang just got back from the flea market,found a few nice ones
first a queen barlow,near mint,aluminum body and q76 stamped on the main blade,pat no2728139 on the pen blade and queen steel #22 on the main blade appears unsharpened.
second, a remington umc in the circle,made in usa around circle and r4655 on the main blade,cell(i think) scales(perfect) nice blades.
third imperial easy opener,bone scales,original bale,nice snap,pen blade worn some.bad pic of the knife but bail and scales are nice,one tiny chip toward the front bottom of the bolster.

according to my sargents guide the scales are pyremite, the years are 1924-33,the stamp is nice and crisp,but cannot find a pattern number r4655, i would appreciate any knowledge on this.
