Anyone else think this knife looks odd? The jigging on the front handles looks odd to me.Everything else seems ok.Any comments?

I think I would buy the knife without reservation. A bit of a question here. Isn't it uncommon to see a well done counterfeit 1970s Case knife? Most of the better fakes we see on here are from the XX and Tested eras?

Only when someone attempts to adds a dot to each end of the line on a 1972 eight dotted knife.

I dont necessarily think its fake, but why does the jigging go all the way to the bolsters on the front? I have several congress knives and the jigging stops right at the pins on each side.Can someone explain?

The OP knife looks okay to me. The jigging is Case.

Bone handle covers are cut, jigged, and dyed before being assembled onto the knife frame. Then they are hafted (a type of grinding) and polished to produce a smooth fit junction with the bolsters. The bone comes from the shinbone of a cow - it's a natural material so slabs are not in uniform in thickness from slab to slab. How far the jigging ultimately extends toward the bolsters is simply a function of how thick the bone slab is. If the slab is thick more material has to be removed during hafting, thereby removing more of the jigging.

Maybe this YouTube video from an older post will help explain. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=45848&start=75#p570124. It shows how Case makes knives and you can see the processes I described.

Also dug up this article that explains a lot of the Case knife assembly processes as they pertain to bone jigging and hafting. IIRC this was published in the Case Collectors Club magazine, at least 20+ years ago.
