Western 062
Got this Western 062 for 6 bucks off EBay. The main blade was tipped and the second blade had no snap, which the seller disclosed.
I cut it apart, reprofiled the main blade and reassembled as a single blade. That thing is slim now! You can see in the pictures why the secondary blade had no snap. The tang had worn into the spring and was ground away.

Nice save! That's one of my favorite patterns to customize, they just look so good!

Very nice save!!
I sure bet it feels good in the hand now that the secondary blade is gone!
Thanks for showing the damage to the secondary blade.

Thank you all! I've always liked these Westerns as well and this one will be a carry for sure!
Request for help/ideas about the blade. Since it was tipped I just filled the top edge until I had another tip.
Although the blade is useable I'm not satisfied with it's looks. What can I do different with it?

at first glance..... I don't see a problem with it. The profile looks nice.
What makes you unhappy with it?

Problem solved! I made a toothpick out of it! I lost the nail nick, but it doesn't look so chopped off now. I might get the courage to use my Dremmel and a cut off wheel to cut another, but I'll see. I might just leave well enough alone!

Nice solution..... If the blade shape bothers .... fix it!
Heck yeah.... that blade shape sure looks nice!
I have cut a nail nick with my dremel cutter in my drill press.
There is a thread that shows some good pics of the procedure.
(I'll have to see if I can find it)
Here is one....

Thanks for the link Mike. That looks do able, but I think I'll leave it alone for now. I should have thought of that when I had it apart!

Re: Western 062
Here is a pic of another method.....
(just for your reference)
I can't find the thread but here is a pic I saved to my hard drive that explains it.... Not my pic... I can't remember who showed this method.
(It sure sux to get old and forgetful....)
Anyway..... this pic was from a knife mechanic here.
This way, you put the knife blade in a vice and everything is in a FIXED position except for the sliding of the vice.
It worked great for me!

Mike, you're an enabler! I've got the stuff to do that! It'd work a lot better than what the lady on the video was doing... I might have to rethink this.
