BOBBY PAOLANTONIO - May I Please Have Some Assistance
Did Colonial make this knife? As you can see, the tang stamp has been sanded off so "reading the knife" is the only solution left.
The handle pin placement says Camillus to me but the short match-strike pull says someone else. I saw that pull someplace and a connection to Colonial was inferred. I figured you would be able to resolve the question for me. Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

Why would anyone sand off any Brand name?
It's obvious they didn't care who all knew about it... Loud and proud ...

Jerry how long is the knife.
The name could have been removed if it was a second.( Schrade removed the name on seconds and latter put XX on them )Not saying it a Schrade

Normal, 3-5/8" closed. I wasn't thinking Schrade because all the Schrade-Ulster-Imperial clone 863/63s I've seen have a plain pull.

I don't remember ever seeing that particular camo scale design on any brand/knife?
I hope Bobby drops by and at least confirms wether or not it's a Colonial. That would be my un edumacated guess.

Neither have I. That's why I bought it. In the pictures it looks unused, uncarried, etc. I guess we'll see when it gets here. Monday or Tuesday would be my guess. No D.C. #Cutty wrote:I don't remember ever seeing that particular camo scale design on any brand/knife?

Re: BOBBY PAOLANTONIO - May I Please Have Some Assistance
The seller was/is Kevin Pipes (who I assume knows something about knives but that's just an assumption since I don't know him or anything about him other than he is the owner/operator of SMKW.). The following is the description from the auction.
"Up for sale is a Camillus Camo Whittler knife.
This is a neat find from the Camillus factory buyout. The markings on the blades have been ground off. This is either a second or a prototype. This USA made Camillus knife features camo acrylic handles. The blades are stainless steel. This knife has brass liners and has nickel silver bolsters and pins. This knife measures 3 5/8" closed. This knife has never been used but has scuffed and dinged handles and bolsters. This knife does not have a box or paperwork."

Man is that one different and it does look like something out of the old SMKW catalogs from back in the late 80's

It's a shame someone didn't have the foresight to save those catalogs. But, ya can't keep everything or you'll end up on the TV show Hoarders.

Re: BOBBY PAOLANTONIO - May I Please Have Some Assistance
I sent the seller a message requesting a refund.
The knife was listed as a Camillus. It's not. As y'all know, I have a few Camillus #72s to compare to.
The clip secondary blade closes on top of the coping blade (every time) and has to be moved over to complete closing.
The clip secondary blade has at least 1/32" of play side to side when open.
I never mentioned possible country of origin because that's just speculation on my part (but I think I'm right)

I decided to stop doing business with the seller & SMKW after the sexual misconduct charges against his son.
I just don't want to do business with someone that would allow that to happen in his company & not fire the guy, son or not!

Well, I sure learned something reading this thread; there is a discernible quality difference between "Made in China" and "Made in Pakistan" - who would have ever guessed!?!? OH
Deep in the guts of most men is buried the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the nape hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with club...Robert Ruark

Re: BOBBY PAOLANTONIO - May I Please Have Some Assistance
Yes Colonel, there is a difference between China "quality" and Pakistan "quality". Pakistan "quality" is very slowly picking up but I don't think they are up to the old "quality" that used to come out of China. They just don't get it. It's what you get when you apply 1st Millenium skills and materials to 21st Century products.
The knife is in the mail system and scheduled for delivery on Monday June 24th. All the hoops have been jumped through and all the paperwork has been filled out as understood. I make it a habit to use the same packing materials and always package a return as close to exactly as received as is possible.

Mmmm, I don't think so Sticker. I think it was just some made up brand name Pakistani special. One thing I'm sure of. It wasn't Camillus.
SMKW received the knife yesterday (Monday) and I just received a complete refund, including shipping both ways. Good customer service. I'm a happy camper.

I was a happy camper but now I'm not. He has it listed on eBay again. Same malarkey about it being a Camillus purchased at the going out of business sale. It is not a Camillus. It was not made in the United States. After having the knife in hand I now firmly believe the knife was made in Pakistan.
