Ken and all who are part of AAPK. I donât know why it would surprise me that there was a thread about Sleep Apnea. When I looked I saw that Jerry had posted there also.Mumbleypeg wrote: âFri Mar 06, 2026 4:57 pm Glad to learn the new mattress fixed your problem. Several years ago after having similar problems, during my annual checkup I mentioned having trouble sleeping to my doctor. After a Q&A, he recommended a doctor who specializes in sleep disorders. There they gave me a device that gently clips onto your fingertip and is connected by wire to a little device about the size and weight of a cigarette pack. The device records your oxygen levels while you sleep. I âsleptâ that night with it, then took it back to the sleep doctor.
Turns out my oxygen levels dropped significantly multiple times per hour, because I stopped breathing. My brain subconsciously realizing I wasnât breathing, woke me up, and I breathed. Repeat. I never really got to a deep, restful complete sleep state. So they sent me for a sleep study. I spent a night in a sleep lab (basically a hotel room with monitors). Diagnosis - I have sleep apnea, which is a sleep disorder common to millions of people. And often undiagnosed. Upon further examination I was fitted for a CPAP (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) machine. After an initial few days getting accustomed to it I have slept soundly and awaken feeling rested and refreshed ever since. It has some other benefits also. Now I wouldnât be without it! Depending on your diagnosis there are other remedies available besides a CPAP. I think youâll find sleep apnea is more common than you know https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kn ... 47#p917447.
That may not be your problem. But itâs easy to find out - just talk with your doctor. One night with a little oxygen monitor on your fingertip will likely tell the story. If itâs not the problem you can go spend a bunch on a new mattress. If sleep apnea is a problem, unless you get it treated no matter what kind of mattress you get, your sleep quality wonât be any better.
