My Latest Attempt to Rehandle a Knife
My Latest Attempt to Rehandle a Knife
They were both really dirty and the scales were in bad shape. So I gave them a bath, got all the pocket lint and grim out, polished them up and put on new handles with some material I had.
The first one is a no name single blade lockback and I used some Ironwood and white fiber spacers.
The second one is a short line Camillus. I used some Linen Micarta that looks like Jade and pieces of Ironwood from the first knife as spacers. I elected not to put the small pins in the ends of the handle.

Beautiful!
I have never used Ironwood, or the Jade micarta, but both are beautiful. That wood almost seems to glow!

I finished with a 10K grit paper on the Ironwood, that's almost like polishing I think.

I'd like to add my kudos, David, for the extra fine looking duo you produced.
Re: My Latest Attempt to Rehandle a Knife
Thank you everyone for your comments. While I am by no means as skilled as many of the fine members of AAPK I do have fun doing different hobbies and I learn so much from all of you. Thanks

Re: My Latest Attempt to Rehandle a Knife
Here’s my latest rehandle job. A friend had shown me a chunk of colorful material in his flower bed. He told me it was from an old boat factory. The workers would spray out the leftover gelcoat from their pneumatic guns at the end of each day. My fried ended up with the a piece of the hardened resin “blob” and offered it to me saying, “Maybe you can make some pocket knife scales with it!”
It was fairly brittle, but I managed some small pieces with interesting patterns that I transferred to my Dad’s old lapidary trim saw.
I fitted those small pieces to an old Case 92042 senator pen knife that had some “life” remaining. While not perfect, by any means, it seems to be a fine, delicate “church knife” (or “magic knife, since the scales don’t match)!

The paint material is technically known as "Fordite."
Fordite was chipped off of the factory paint booths at the Ford factory.

Those handles look a lot like some of the new stuff in the SMKW catalog that Case is putting on their knives.millern wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 8:22 pm Here’s my latest rehandle job.
